ARCADIA

LOCATION DETAIL

The Archivists Club
Were this a video-game, one might imagine the protagonist's "club" within the Arcadians as The Archivists Club. One of the backbones of Arcadia. The Archivists are have two objectives plus a not-that-secret goal, and two main subdivisions within it that focus more on one or the other but they often move between:

  1. In the "real" world and wider local multiverse including Digicasting into fictional worlds: Find and Catalogue resources to copy by any various magical means, to upload as assets for Worldstate Cycling.
  2. Expedition out to and beyond the Far Lands, where strange glitches and anomalous behavior can be recorded.
    x) Hunt for Clues about the Owner, the witch who initially created this pocket dimension. Who she is, why she disappeared, ect.

Elaboration

Arcadia is a special pocket dimension created by a more modern generation of witches. Its faction, the Arcadians, maintain 1990's liberal attitudes and actively cultivate their college-town culture. That said it does blend democracy with some core strict aspects. The college town in question being Arcadia, the central heart of the Arcadian Worldspace. Its core campus is appropriately compared to that of an "Anime High School" in layout and services while having an American "Colonial" and "Federal" architectural styles.

The town itself has a perimiter surrounding it of a New England-like picturesque rolling hills. The cardinal directions are easily recognized at a glance by the worldstate generated by the college which will generate the world in radial cones out from town. Northward is almost always where the rockier climates are generated, sandy beachy and ocean-island terrains generate eastward. Grassland or meadow plains and similar flatlands generate westward. Southward is usually great forests. In between each direction are mixed zones, such as cliffs between East-Seas and North-Mountains and rolling hills between North-Mountains and West-Plains.

Even these generalities can be mixed up between cycles- terms wherein the worldstate remains to be explored before the next map gets designed- though they're usually adhered to. Think of it more like a SEED that Generates the map. The precise details get swapped between seeds like altering the type of flowers or switching it to a pumpkin patch. Birchwood forests to pine forests, great redwoods- or Great American Chestnuts and other extinct trees are possible.

Each Worldstate is designed by the college Planar Mechanics club in collaberation with the rest of the student body. Every club gets a say each cycle on what they want to add to the map to make sure they have a feature they would like to utilize from Geography, Astronomy, Zoology, Agriculture, and general Recreation. The map can include hand-placed assts, tile-set based semi-custom assets the SEED can learn from to copy, or pure RNG.

With that in mind, specific hand-placed objects, locations, or nodes exist throughout. Notably, there is a ring of additional town and cityspaces set at a specific distance out from town, and between them all is a ring of highway connections to mark a border beyond which is considered Wildspace where the only hand-paced content will be easter eggs or special events. Even further beyond Wildspace becomes "Far Lands" where the generation engine breaks down and gets worse from there on out.

Between the perimiter ring and the central town aren't highways, but there are four non-highway roads that connect to the surroundings for those that want to drive cars. Beyond that, simple scenic roads and trails can be randomly or selectively generated as an extra to lead to points of interest. Allowing for Driving to be a hobby among witches who elect to, whether or not they can fly themselves. Driving tends to be a more enjoyable hobby when you barely have to worry about crashing and gas is an optional ritual of emulation rather than a need. Vehicles of all sorts of recreational varieties can be found and lended to Arcadians and guests, college-going or not.

Many of the Town/City Nodes around the perimiter are used by Alumni and Relatives as a form of retirement or settling-down. The nodes usually remain the same betwene Cycles, but can be Re-Generated to renew everything to a fresh state minus registered changes and updates. They can cosmetically alter the appearance without changing the actual layouts as well, or do whole thematic shifts. As it stands, the towns-cities have standout features, such as a medieval town, farm village, dense modern skyscraper city. Another town might have canals instead of streets. Feel free to imagine the towns for yourself to suit your story and comforts. These Node Towns can have NPCs following advanced scripts, but scripts none the less. Visitors can touch an NPC to get details and can slip into their place to live their routine if they wish.

Overall, Arcadia is both a place of adventure, and a place of quiet refuge.
