Scaling assumptions
The following power-level equivalencies are assumed to hold:
- Perks with Cost up to 4 = Rank 0 Magic
- Perks with Cost 4 - 6 = Rank 1-3 Magic
- Perks with Cost 6-12 = Rank 3-4 Magic
- Perks with Cost above 12 - Rank 5 Magic
Population
A question I never properly came to a definite answer to myself, but within known witchdom (The sphere of influence, reach, and knowledge of witches based from Earth), I'd guess... Up to 1 500 Million, not counting non-witch magical races.
But this also includes many witches who don't exceed ranks 1 & 2 where witches capable of Rank 3 are considered strong. Something like:
- 125m rank 2.
- 15.5m hitting rank 3.
- 900k reaching rank 3. [Presumed typo for 4]
- 30k reaching rank 5.
The remainder would not exceed Rank 1 or even 0. [...] These numbers spread out all across different realms, pocket dimensions, and worlds. And most of that meaning witches who have one magic reaching that rank. As for the factions specifically, Alfheimr would be the most populous with witches, Alfheimr having more witches than Earth, and the Alliance [being something of a world government split between mainly the summer and winter courts]. The ORC would be next in size, but not in witches alone, as they have I believe it was over 80 million residents in their Deco City metropolis alone. Hawthorne and Arcadia are both very populated with their own landmasses.
There are about 500 Million witches. Their ranks are divided as follows:
- 125m reach rank 2
- 15.5m reach rank 3
- 900k reach rank 4
- 30k reach rank 5
The remaining witches do not go above Rank 1 or even 0: - ~350m Rank 1 Witches
- 10m Rank 0 (Dysfunctional) Witches
This is the total number of witches in all of Creation
- around as many witches as South Americans
- around as many Rank >/= 2 witches as Brits, Scotts and Frenchmen
- about as many rank >/= 3 witches as... somewhere between Belgium and the Netherlands
- about as many rank >/= 4 witches as Luxembourg x2
- about as many rank 5 witches as Liechtensteinians
There are more rank 1 witches than rank 0 witches. In Dysfunction, Penelope mentions that the complication is "not unheard of", implying it is not common but not vanishingly rare. I assumed a similar low-bound prevalence rate to schizophrenia (1 in 300).
